I worked my way up to managing the support department 2 years later where I sat in the captains chair for 6 years. During that time I was able to gain valuable experience dealing with various types of internet access, Cisco switch and routing equipment, DNS, email, web hosting, and a number of other systems. I passed much of what I learned to the technicians under my supervision to help grow the support department from a minor support role to a more critical support role within the company. When the need arose for a Junior Unix Systems Administrator I took what I learned supporting our systems the previous 8 years and applied it to that task. Over the next few years I helped our Senior Unix Systems Administrator build and maintain our core Unix infrastructure to what it is today. There was also a need for a Junior Network Systems Administrator so once again I applied myself and learned valuable networking experience from our Senior Network Systems Administrator which I still apply to this day.
