  I grew up in New Orleans, LA, and attended college at Northwestern University where I received my Bachelor's of Science in Journalism. After graduation, I began my career working at a major women's magazine in New York City before transitioning to digital journalism and online production at a major women's television network. When Hurricane Katrina hit my hometown, my career trajectory took an unexpected turn: I felt helpless in the aftermath of the storm and found myself wishing I had the skills to provide aide and assistance to people in need. I decided to go back to school to become a Registered Nurse. In 2012, I moved to Boston to attend the Accelerated BSN program at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. I earned my RN, BSN in 14 months, graduating in May of 2013. During my final clinical internship, I worked over 200 hours in a Boston-area Emergency Department where I worked with and treated a diverse group of patients who presented with many of the most common adult diseases. It was in the ER that I found my passion for critical care nursing: I enjoy the team atmosphere and pace of critical care, as well as the potential to make a difference during what can be one of the scariest experiences of a person's life. After graduating, I worked as a critical care RN at Rhode Island's only Level 1 Trauma Center, Rhode Island Hospital.
