He was awarded the Human Resource Planning Society’s Walker Prize for his landmark article, “Leadership in the Networked Economy,” has been honored with two Emerald Literati Club Awards for scholarship, and is recipient of the Institute for Management Studies’ Distinguished Faculty Award. He also was listed among the twelve Gurus of Executive Education in the journal "Business Horizons," and among the top ten leadership development coaches in Marshall Goldsmith's book, "The Art and Practice of Leadership Coaching." He currently is a member of the Editorial Board for “The Journal of Management Development" (UK). Al serves on the Board of Directors for the Jana Marie Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in memory of his daughter and committed to helping adolescents, their families, and their communities deal with issues related to mental health and suicide prevention.
