Alanna Kamp’s Expertise Dr Alanna Kamp is Senior Lecturer in Social and Cultural Geography and Academic Program Advisor (Geography & Planning), School of Social Sciences, Western Sydney University. She is a member of the Young and Resilient Research Centre (WSU), Challenging Racism Project (WSU), Diversity and Human Rights Research Centre (WSU), and Centre for Resilient and Inclusive Societies. Dr Kamp’s research contributions lie in the areas of Australian cultural diversity, racism/anti-racism, national identity, and intersectional experiences of belonging & exclusion. These areas of research are deeply connected to her position as a second generation settler Australian of Asian and European heritage. Her work utilises national-level quantitative methods as well as smaller-scale qualitative techniques. These are influenced by multi-disciplinary research approaches (post-colonialism, feminism, history, diaspora etc). She has published pioneering and award winning work on Chinese Australian women’s experiences of national and cultural identity, racism and belonging. She has also published in the areas of Indigenous Studies, Asian Australian Studies, and Islamophobia. Her book 'Intersectional Lives: Chinese Australian Women in White Australia' was published by Routledge (London) in April 2022. Dr Kamp is currently part of the ARC Discovery research team evaluating online anti-racism initiatives. She is Lead Investigator of a research project funded by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Victoria and Centre for Resilient and Inclusive Societies examining Asian Australians' experiences of racism during the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr Kamp is also Lead Investigator of the SBS commissioned project 'What Next for Diversity? 2.0' and is conducting a research project under a WSU Fellowship examining 'mixed-race' young Australians experiences of racism, identity and belonging.
