Alice Gaiatto agaiatto@embl.org & | I'm a biotechnologist with a profound interest in all aspects of cancer biology, ranging from the molecular bases of tumorigenesis to the study of the phenotypic characteristics acquired throughout the process. With my bachelor and master internships, I have been given the opportunity to observe and practice different laboratory techniques on cultured cancer cells, including traditional Western, Northern and Dot Blotting, RT-qPCR, single-cell imaging approaches and subsequent image data analyses. I find particularly stimulating the investigation of the biology of non-coding RNAs, as the vastness of this mostly unexplored field fuels my thirst for knowledge; in addition, I just genuinely enjoy working with RNA. Working full-time in a laboratory has also taught me the importance of communication, teamwork and troubleshooting, values to which I attach great importance. I'm looking forward to undertaking an international career in the academic field and engaging in a PhD programme.
