Directing a biochemical laboratory and consulting company that provided bench modeling, permit writing / negotiations, product and protocol development, process optimization I focused on compliance geared toxicity reduction. Clean water has always been my focus- stormwater management, emergency spill response, BMP development and toxicity treatment protocols were developed in partnerships with engineering firms to focus on the needs of federal facilities, commercial and municipal clients as well as new startups. Permitting and regulatory negotiations were required along with public outreach and communications. Federal contracts required legal vetting, data collection, trend analysis and protocol development. The thing about toxicology is that it does not fit neatly in a singular regulation. The work crossed over from CWA, FERC, NEPA, RCRA, ESA, ISPE, and CNR. It required working with all types of organizations: EPA, state agencies, FDA, USDA, USFW, NPS, DNR, NHS, FHA, non-profits and local boards as well as many other major and minor stakeholders. Working in 7 foreign countries and 28 states in the US has required flexibility, excellent communications, long-term relationship building, and a willingness to never stop learning and mentoring the next generation. Water affects everyone, personally-our health, our children’s posterity and every product that will ever be developed or destroyed.
