Amy Bearden’s Expertise I started my journalism career 20 years ago with a small TV News Station in southern Oklahoma, but eventually decided to put my career on hold to raise kids while chasing my spouses dream. Spent 10+ years in sport’s marketing but always found myself glued to current events. Often life goes differently than we expect it too, so you must adapt and overcome. Rediscovering my love for storytelling and moving back to my hometown that had become a News desert the last few years inspired me to pick up my pen and start asking questions again. In 2021, I created a nonprofit digital newspaper called Mineral Wells Area News and it was designed to inform my favorite community of important information they needed to be know. It’s become bigger than I ever imagined and our social media reach has become quite impressive for a rural community. We never charge to read our content, and crowd fund to keep our mission alive. Local journalism has never been more important! We cover hard news, sports, crime news as well as important community meetings. There is a renaissance happening in 76067 area and MWAN is grateful to have a front row seat to document the history that is happening in this community.
