Andrew Benesh’s Expertise I currently serve as assistant professor of family therapy at Mercer University, where I operate the MFT training clinic, teach clinical courses, and provide supervision. I also maintain a small clinical caseload with a focus on providing individual and family therapy services to at-risk and high need children and adolescents, with a focus on child welfare and juvenile justice involved families. I am currently completing requirements for full MFT licensure in Georgia, and AAMFT-Approved supervisor status. I also serve as a camp director for Camp to Belong Georgia, a non-profit camp that reunites youth separated due to foster care or adoption. My research focuses on families involved in the child welfare system. My work includes projects using secondary data sets to develop algorithms to identify youth in need of additional services, the development and evaluation of foster parent training programs, and exploring how relational factors can influence youth outcomes. Other research interests include effects of psychosocial neglect on developmental outcomes, program evaluation, non-traditional interventions for children and adolescents, and interventions to promote resiliency in high-need and at-risk youth. In addition to research and clinical practice, I serve as public policy liaison to the Southeastern Council for Family Relations, and provide analysis, consultation, and advocacy for policies impacting children and families. I welcome new opportunities to collaborate on family-focused child welfare research, clinical interventions with high-need families, and policy advocacy and consulting.
