Andrew Reader’s Expertise During my role at DMU I have been heavily involved in helping implement a CRM system which will be used across the university. This included testing data entry and workflows to ensure the correct marketing material was delivered to meet specific enquiries. Workflows were created and amended to ensure this was a success. I have also been involved in the maintenance of the international internet webpages, and proposing new online initiatives. This also included creating a new website for the international office and overseeing this operation with the web team. Social media marketing was an ongoing project within in my role, having the ability to market DMU whilst also looking into other social media channels. I also had the opportunity to travel to overseas to attend agent fairs, as well as attend recruitment events in the UK. These trips were to advise and council prospective students and families on opportunities available at DMU. I have been heavily involved in the production of selected marketing communications material including proof reading, copy writing, editing, sourcing case studies and newsletter copy, also co-ordinating electronic and hard copy mailings. I also have responsibility of assisting in the planning of inward visits, this includes booking venues, liaising with Faculty and service teams to ensure the correct image of DMU is portrayed. I am responsible for inputting purchase orders for services required by the university, and to co-ordinate budget management and reports for the international team with the aid of the department finance officer and line managers. Whilst at DMU I also had the opportunity to apply prior knowledge of events planning to organise the International Agent Training Week, in which I was given a specific budget.Working within the payment protection insurance department, I was responsible to deal with complaints logged taking into account the banks reputation and detriment to the customers, ensuring expressions of dissatisfaction are handled in accordance with FSA timescales, and ensure no breaches take place. I was required to use initiative in developing resolutions to complaints via back office investigation, telephone calls and letter writing in order to strengthen customer loyalty and retention by ensuring the business learns from complaints. It was necessary to provide a high quality response to all complex referrals and complaints, on both simple and specialist cases including media cases, VIP, vulnerable customers, before moving to re-open complaints, whilst exceeding productivity targets. I also had the opportunity to undertake daily conference calls with senior managers from the United Kingdom and India to discuss targeting and how mistakes can be eliminated to ensure the satisfaction of the customer. Reports were sent to operational managers throughout the United Kingdom regarding progress and areas of improvement. This was conducted on my own initiative, and was supported by my line manager. I also had the opportunity to stand in for my line manager during her absence. This involved taking control of workflow issues, quality assurance and statistical reporting ensuring KPIs were met and high standards maintained.During my role within the Faraday Centre my main responsibilities were to establish and maintain communication with existing clients by emails, telephone calls and sales visits, within the UK and overseas. Identification of new and potential clients using business directories, and the Internet to increase the customer base and to maintain and update the client database was required. I was tasked with designing advertisements when appropriate and to source advertising opportunities within the UK, Cyprus and overseas in the publications and on the Internet to achieve exposure. I was responsible for the overall process, liaising with designers and printers to ensure deadlines are met and to ensure effective distribution of all marketing materials was achieved. I was responsible for updating the company website, and along with senior managers, tasked with looking to update the website. Focus groups of potential customers in the company target market were contacted to identify what aspects of the website and how changes could improve the appeal. Meetings with web designers were arranged and held to also receive their point of view. I was the coordinator of the Faraday Centre Exhibition and Conference, organising the entire event. Continuous improvement was a role in which I took active responsibility.Through Teesside University, I was able to complete three placements consisting of a total of twenty-six weeks within marketing roles for various companies in various industries. These companies were Durham Road Physiotherapy Clinic, Grey Towers Interiors, and SAYU. Throughout the roles I achieve a number of different skills, and placed myself in a number of different situations. These included: Networking events; implementing online tools to spread the benefits of physiotherapy; updating and maintaining product online data, helped develop and maintain company websites. I was responsible for producing data feeds to sell products on eBay and Google shopping. Facebook and Twitter accounts were set up and the use of Search Engine Optimisation was also implemented to increase exposure of the company. I also worked closely with a senior Search Engine Optimiser in order to maintain client relationships and increasing the visibility of clients' websites using a variety of online marketing techniques.Working within HM Revenue & Customs I have gained experience across a wide range of work areas, having expanded my knowledge across an extensive range of practices and procedures. Working as a team leader, I responsible for thirteen members of staff, communication was an important factor within this role. During this role I learnt differing communication skills depending upon my audience, and I am able to adapt the approach and method of communication. I have the ability to analyse any information, interpret and make judgements to select appropriate solutions from clearly defined alternatives. I am able to approach and analyse problems, and make decisions on individual issues. I can effectively work independently and I am able to manage and control workflow standards within a workplace environment, and deal with any day-to-day personnel issues. As a team leader, I was responsible to ensure my team achieved and exceeded KPI targets set my senior managers, whilst also concentrating on quality control. I also undertook additional duties. These included attending and contributing to various problem solving meetings, working closely with senior managers to produce an intranet site for Stockton Group.Living in country for two years, I worked in accordance with the quality requirements of EdExcel and Bradford College to ensure the delivery of the HND Business syllabus, provision of resources, records-keeping, and transmission of all HND-related paperwork (including student assignments) to Bradford. I also took an active role in the delivery of the course by teaching various marketing and economic modules, Quantitative Techniques for Business, Human Resource Management and English for Academic Purposes to a number of students, and preparing the HND cohort for their IELTS examinations. Time management was a major factor within this position, ensuring lectures and other learning materials, as well as assessment materials were available and taught at the necessary times. A professional attitude towards work, students and other members of the teaching and office staff was required at all times. I also had the opportunity to advise students with study abroad opportunities, especially the United Kingdom, and was able to explain the benefits of this kind of experience to hence their potential as a future employment applicant.
