Astrid Valenzuela’s Expertise My studies at The Instituto Superior Pedro Francisco Bonó, an accredited Jesuit university in the Dominican Republic, provided my first experience acting as a teaching assistant for courses on Latin American/ Caribbean philosophy and Intercultural philosophy as a term student. I deeply identify with Bonó’s tradition in philosophy and commitment to rigorous decolonial thinking, as well as its social engagement. I engaged most regularly in the study of traditional metaphysics and epistemology, having decided to defend a monograph on Heideggerian metaphysics and hermeneutics. Additionally, faculty members encouraged me to the study of more contemporary topics. As a teaching assistant, I lead small- group discussions on Decolonial Feminism and presented phenomenological-didactic documentation in a Latin American philosophy course. Later, with the endorsement of several Jesuit priests, I led and developed a workshop about Intercultural Philosophy intended for active lawyers. While at Instituto Superior Pedro Francisco Bonó, I continued to expand my pedagogy for English- language instruction; I also established a solid foundation of my own study of Latin. Since that time, I have continued to expand my language study, through Beginner’s and Intermediate Ancient Greek (NSSR) and other courses. In my time at The New School, I have read, studied, and written broadly in philosophy through the following courses: Being and Time (Spring 2020), Lacan (Spring 2020), Time, Being, and the Uncounscious (Fall 2020), Nietzsche Heidegger, and the Greeks (Spring 2020)and Philosophy of History (Spring 2021). I worked as a professional English to Spanish translator; the project, Soñemos Juntos, is slated for publication in late summer or fall 2021.
