For the summer of 2019, I was working in Chelsea, MI with the electrified Powertrain On Board Diagnostics team to validate and document Loss of Propulsion (LoP) events that were occurring in the new P1P4 hybrid electric vehicle system. I worked with subject matter experts to gain knowledge about Loss of Propulsion, hybrid electric vehicles, Simulink control, MATLAB Guided User Interface (GUI) creation, ETAS INCA used for in-vehicle experimentation and data collection, and DCplot to analyze the experimental data. I spent time documenting the reasons for the LoP events and adding information to Calibration Guide Documentations, then I went on to create a GUI that users who are unfamiliar with LoP events can use to search a database of DTCs to gather the necessary information more efficiently. Over my summer, I learned more about technical skills like Software Controls, MATLAB and Simulink, and interpersonal skills like team work, communication, and asking questions when confused. During my time as an intern at Multimatic, I was tasked with many assignments and long term projects. One of these projects included using SolidWorks Modeling to assist a Process Engineer in automating an existing procedure that operators were struggling with. The procedure included loading a pentagonal shaped tube into a jig, then driving two mandrels into the ends by pulling down on two large lever arms. I was tasked with designing the table the automated version would be fastened to, designing sensor brackets to test for the hydraulic cylinders' location, and force-analysis of the manual lever arm to determine the type and size of hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder to use.
