My teams broke award-winning stories that were ahead of their time, from the dark side of tech advancements to life across America as a transgender teen to the origins of fringe theories. At Gizmodo Media Group, I designed and implemented the video strategy and centralized teams around achieving common KPIs for twelve diffused sites. In addition to defining and expanding news at Snapchat to reach tens of millions of people around the globe each day, I’m proud of how we’ve removed barriers to entry for underrepresented and underfunded creator journalists on the platform. We also created partnerships that have persisted with major traditional media outlets like Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NBC, The Guardian, BBC, and Le Monde. REVEALING THE TRUE NATURE OF ISSUES IS THE FIRST STEP I got my first taste for journalism while working for the student paper at Columbia University and have pursued it in various forms ever since. I’ve seen the power of great storytelling and worked on creating business models that enable journalists to reach people where they are. It might sound corny, but I believe we can create a better world by continuing to re-think both sides of this equation: providing access to reliable, engaging stories and doing it in ways that are responsible and sustainable.
