Provided IT helpdesk support.At Internet Partners, Inc. my responsibilities where customer support, and network administration. My role in customer support was to provide the setup of connection to the Internet, e-Mail accounts, websites both personal, and business. As administrator I monitored our network 7 x 24 with the help of a number of systems that would alert me day, or night of problems. I installed Microsoft, FreeBSD, Sun Solaris, and Ubuntu Linux host server solutions for DNS, HTTP [web], FTP, and others as needed.At Compatible Computers part my responsibilities where the installation, and support of Microsoft, Novell network solutions. I also worked in the area of customer support of all the other products we sold. In the 90's we became the main provider of Compaq computers to Legacy Health System of Portland, Oregon. In addition to that we also provided contract support work for them. For a period of time I was called in to provide Network Administrator support in the Legacy corporate office. After that I was next was called in to provide IT helpdesk desktop support on a number of projects until we built up a bigger employee base. During the mid 90's our President along with three other persons formed a local regional Internet Service Provider [ISP] named Internet Partners, Inc. [ www.ipinc.net ]. I was asked from time to time to perform a number of duties for IPInc. Then after a period of time I was asked to move into the role of customer support / network administration for IPInc. I was still an employee of Compatible Computers however I was working full time for our sister company IPInc.At ESI Glen Donaldson, and myself where responsible for sales, installation, and support of IBM educational solutions into the Oregon K-12 market. My main responsibility was the installation and support of networking product line. At the start of 1992 IBM had yet to renew the agent agreement with ESI for the Oregon market. Due to this Glen, and I decided that it was time to move on.At Photo & Sound Company I started out in shipping receiving. Then moved to inside sales support. After the introduction of the Bell & Howell “Black Apple” [eduction model], and the IBM PC I moved into more of a technical support role. Then with the introduction of 3Com, and Novell PC networking products I moved into the role of network specialist for both hardware, and software. Over the years I was sent all over the western United states to help support some of the Photo & Sound Company branch offices. Of course supporting our Hawaii office was one of my favorite sites. After that I moved into the Office Manager role. With the movement of our branch manager to vice president in our San Francisco corporate office I was promoted to Branch Manager. Unforeseeable to most of us was Photo & Sound Company going out of business. This was due to a number of reasons including the earthquake in 1989 which caused us to loose our corporate office in downtown San Francisco due to it being condemned. If not for that I might still be working for Photo & Sound Company as I always enjoyed both the company, and my fellow employees.
