Brian Atkinson’s Expertise I recently submitted the manuscript for Always Chasing the Sun: The Songwriting Legacy of Judee Sill to Texas A&M University Press. My other books include I'll Be Here in the Morning: The Songwriting Legacy of Townes Van Zandt, The Messenger: The Songwriting Legacy of Ray Wylie Hubbard, Looks Like Rain: The Songwriting Legacy of Mickey Newbury, True Love Cast Out All Evil: The Songwriting Legacy of Roky Erickson, Love at the Five and Dime: The Songwriting Legacy of Nanci Griffith and East Nashville Skyline: The Songwriting Legacy of Todd Snider (due fall 2025). Additionally, I co-wrote Kent Finlay: Dreamer (Texas A&M University Press, 2016) with my business partner Jenni Finlay. Jenni and I own Squeaky String Productions, Eight 30 Records, Burgundy Red Films, Barefoot recording studio and Catfish Concerts. My liner notes appear in the albums I've co-produced: The Messenger: A Tribute to Ray Wylie Hubbard, Highway Prayer: A Tribute to Adam Carroll, Cold and Bitter Tears: The Songs of Ted Hawkins, Danny Barnes' Got Myself Together (Ten Years Later), Kent Finlay, Dreamer as well as the Grammy-nominated double-disc This One's for Him: A Tribute to Guy Clark. I have written for CMT.com, the Austin American-Statesman, the London Daily Telegraph, American Songwriter, Relix, Texas Music, Lone Star Music, No Depression, Paste, Maverick Country, Pop Culture Press and other magazines. My photo exhibit with Denver artist Sean P. Tracey (For the Sake of the Song: The Outlaws of Americana) has shown in Austin, Denver and Seattle.
