Brian Baumhover’s Expertise I'm a software engineer at Microsoft working on the Edge Browser's Performance Team, solving tough problems around performance to deliver a high performance web browser. I have broad experience across different technologies and am excited about learning new tech and trying new things. I have a passion for deconstructing problems and solving things at the root. My career in software development expanded from my interest in game development at a young age, when I taught myself Microsoft Basic in middle school, and then learned C++ and DirectX 6.0. My insatiable curiosity and motivation to create led to several high school projects ranging from embedded microcontroller firmware for paintball markers, a 3D golf game, a functional GameBoy emulator, and a game engine. My time at Iowa State University included work on a variety of side-projects, contract and student employee software work, and exploration of a diversity of interests including an international development project in Uganda, where I learned lessons about ownership and appropriate use of technology. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Microsoft, where I took full-time employment after graduating from ISU. I had the opportunity to learn a great deal working alongside extremely experienced engineers from many different backgrounds, and have taken away those lessons of how to be an effective and pragmatic developer, and how to work at scale on massive projects including hundreds of developers. I'm excited about gaining new experiences and getting the most out of life in what I would call a goal-oriented way. I enjoy seeking out new and challenging opportunities to be a part of building something new, where ownership is inherent and self-motivation is rewarded. I look forward to further opportunities to have a positive impact both in the work I do, and how that work impacts the world.
