Brian Thrall’s Expertise Brian Thrall, Ph.D. is Associate Director of the Biological Sciences Division and Director of the Biomedical Research Sector at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). His research focuses on the development and application of state-of-the-art systems biology and ‘omics strategies for understanding and prediction of health impacts of environmental agents. He currently is Director of PNNL’s Center for Nanotoxicology, funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). Over the last 20 years he has been Principal Investigator for numerous projects and multidisciplinary research programs funded by NIH, DOE, EPA and the private sector. Dr. Thrall has served in a variety of management and leadership roles at PNNL, including as a Technical Group Manager for over 15 years, and in strategic leadership roles for several institutional research and organizational initiatives. He has served on numerous national advisory and review panels for NIH, EPA, DOE, National Nanotechnology Initiative, and as Chair of the NIEHS Nanotechnology Health Implications Research Consortium. Dr. Thrall has also trained more than a dozen postdoctoral fellows, post-masters and student interns. Dr. Thrall is author of over 80 publications and is routinely invited as a speaker to national and international scientific meetings and workshops. His research has received professional honors, including the Society of Toxicology (SOT) Board of Publications Award, NIEHS Speaker Faculty for the 1st US-China Joint Symposia on Nanobiology, and a team award for Discovery Magazine Technology of the Year. He serves on the editorial boards for Toxicology Letters, Nanobiomedicine, and previously for Open Toxicology journal. He is secretary/treasurer for the SOT Nanotoxicology Specialty Section, and contributed as past President for the regional Pacific Northwest Association of Toxicologists chapter.
