Cagdas Acar’s Expertise With a background in translation and literature, I am primarily interested in the travel of ideas across languages and cultures. Travel of ideas encompasses transformation: not only the ideas themselves but the receiving reading public is also transformed by this transfer. It is therefore also a question of when and why that travel takes place. What incentivizes those agents who are engaged in translation? And what triggers people's interest into certain translated work over different periods of time? With these questions in mind, I am doing research on the late Ottoman Empire and the early republican Turkey.
