Carles Sanchez Márquez’s Expertise Carles Sánchez (Ph.D., Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) is Professor of Medieval Art History in the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Director of the candidacy of the See of Egara for UNESCO World Heritage List. He holds a doctorate in the organization of Romanesque’s cathedrals workshops of the 11th and 12th in Spain, mainly focused on architects, sculptors and masons. In July 2014, he was awarded with an Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship to support research in the context of the Santiago Cathedral Project. Since 2011 he has been working as a researcher and coordinator of the project Encyclopaedia of Romanesque Art in the Iberian Peninsula. He is general coordinator of the UAB’s research project Artists, Patrons and Audiences. Catalonia and the Mediterranean (11th-15th centuries) –MAGISTRI CATALONIAE (HAR2011-23015), managing the Index Magistri Cataloniae, a digital database of Catalan medieval artists and workshops. He also takes part in the new research group MAGISTRI CATALONIAE, of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, in association with the Departament d’Art i Musicologia (UAB). His researches focus on the study of Romanesque Art – artists, sculpture, mural painting and Romanesque portals–, as well as in the Pilgrimage to Saint James and the spread of St Nicholas’ cult in the Iberian Peninsula. He has presented their research results in various conferences held at the Scuola Superiore Normale of Pisa (Index Magistri Cataloniae. Artisti tra anonimato e firma nella Catalogna e nel bacino Mediterraneo), Perpignan (L’anonymat et la signature des artistes dans la Catalogne et le bassin méditerranéen) and Barcelona (Marginalia, exempla i temes profans en la decoració palatina catalana dels segles XIII i XIV, MNAC 2014). He also participated in the III Romanesque Conference organized by the British Archaeological Association (2014). Furthermore, he has published several articles in academic journals such as Iconographica, Ad Limina, Codex Aquilarensis, Cahiers de Saint-Michel de Cuxa, etc. He is member of the scientific committee of Romanico. Moreover, he is editor of Porticvm, Revista d’Estudis Medievals He is general coordinator of this Research Project of the MICINN “Artistas, Patronos y Público. Cataluña y el Mediterráneo (s. XI-XV) – MAGISTRI CATALONIAE” (HAR2011-23015) during the period 2012-2014. Carles Sánchez is also part of the new GRUP DE RECERCA (GdR) [research group] MAGISTRI CATALONIAE, of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, in association with the Departament d’Art i Musicologia (UAB).
