  I am a lecturer in Global Urbanisms at Newcastle University. I research water, teach urban planning and am currently director of the MSc in Urban Planning. My research focuses on how people and communities cope with having too little (or too much) water, particularly in Asia. I am currently a co-investigator in 2 UKRI GCRF Hubs. These are international trans-disciplinary hubs tackling intractable challenges. I am co-Lead of Work Stream 4 in the Water Security and Sustainable Development Hub that focusses on river basins in Colombia, Ethiopia, India and Malaysia. I am interested in how the knowledges, beliefs, practices and values of water interact with responses and how more effective solutions can be found by taking these into account. This also links to my work in the Living Deltas Hub, in which I am part of Work Package 1 which focuses on heritage and livelihoods to build shared narratives of pasts, presents and alternative futures in delta areas of Vietnam, Bangladesh and India.
