Charles Smith’s Expertise Served as the EUCOM SME in the only Global Response Force (GRF) Joint Planning Command. My additional areas of concentration are PACOM, USFK, USFJ, AFRICOM, Intelligence, and SOF. I deploy in support of GCC planning efforts and exercises. I develop custom JIPOEs that are tailored to each deployment, whether it is for a GRF mission, planning support, or an exercise. I am also a STO Planner and an Exercise Planner.Served as the 10th SFG(A) Intelligence Planner, supporting 5 named operations and Special Warfare efforts.Served as the J2 for the US mission to remove Joseph Kony and other senior leaders of the Lord's Resistance Army from the battlefield in coordination with the African Union, regional partners (Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Central African Republic, and the Republic of South Sudan), and the US Department of State. Responsible for an Intelligence enterprise that exceeded 40 personnel (DoD, civilian, and contractor) and included ISR platforms. Directed Operational Needs Statements (ONS) for several ISR platforms. Maintained daily interaction with staff at US Embassy, Kampala.Served as the 10th SFG(A) S2. Mentored and enabled over 220 Intelligence Soldiers, spread across two continents, as they provided critical intelligence support to combat operations across the CENTCOM AOR and to CT efforts within AFRICOM, EUCOM, and NORTHCOM. Responsible for recruiting and screening all Intelligence Officers who volunteered for assignment to the Group. Responsible for an annual training budget in excess of $200,000.Commander of the Group Military Intelligence Detachment and responsible for 49 Soldiers and 1 civilian. Supported five (5) named Operations while maintaining the capability to deploy and establish a Joint Intelligence Support Element with no notice to the AFRICOM, EUCOM, CENTCOM, and NORTHCOM Areas of Operation. Served as the Group Intelligence Planner and directed analysis in support of contingency operations and planning efforts for FID and UW. Served as the Deputy J2 for JTF 487. Developed the operational design that successfully re-oriented the entire Group from OIF to AFRICOM within six months.Served as the Operations Officer for the Combined Arms and Tactics Directorate, coordinating doctrinal training for over 4,000 students. Served as the Intelligence Instructor for the U.S. Army's Officer Candidate School, Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course, Maneuver Captain's Career Course, and the Infantry Pre-Command Course. Served as a Leadership Instructor for Officer Candidate School.Served as the S2 and the Military Intelligence Detachment Commander for the 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group. Responsible for 45 Intelligence and Special Forces Soldiers and the predictive analysis to support no notice deployments within the CENTCOM Area of Operations to conduct FID, UW, DA, SR, and PR. Deployed to OIF in 2005 and 2006.Served as the Deputy Group S2 for 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Deployed to OIF and served as the J2 Current Operations Officer for CJSOTF-AP, coordinating intelligence in support for US Army Special Forces, US Navy SEALs, and the Polish GROM. Responsible for the daily briefing to the senior Special Forces Commander in OIF.Served as the lead J2P-P military planner for EUCOM's top planning priority. Served as an Operational Planning Team (OPT) leader for 22 personnel, distributed across the IC in four different combatant commands.
