These units include: Clinical Psychology (about various mental health issues), Developmental Psychopathology (mental health issues in childhood and adolescence), Autism Spectrum Disorder (about theories and interventions for Autism) and Affective Neuroscience (the study of the brain in relation to mental health issues). In July I will have completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology, with a predicted 2(i), which will grant me with eligibility for graduate membership with the British Psychological Society. A life-long goal of mine is to become a clinical psychologist and I believe that this role will provide me with a worthwhile experience to learn more about therapy and treatments to further this aspiration. Different therapeutic approaches interest me the most, especially Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Therapies like these, which aim to help a patient recover through identifying maladaptive beliefs and challenging these through behavioural experiments, seem to greatly improve the quality of life for patients. Without the support that services like the NHS provide, these individuals would likely not recover or be able to make the most of the opportunities in their lives. I would greatly appreciate being able to work in a mental health team to learn more about psychosocial interventions and the role of psychology in healthcare.
