Chris Buck’s Expertise Chris Buck is a Transport Planner with experience both as a consultant and client-side in public transport. He has recently completed a secondment to the Strategic Transport Planning team in Transport Scotland. He has worked on several projects for Transport Scotland, including the 2nd Strategic Transport Projects Review, a study of the economic benefits of road freight in Scotland; an appraisal of transport management options to enable significant tree felling above the A82 at Loch Ness; and a review of the appraisal of active travel modes within Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance (STAG). Chris presented a paper on the latter project at the Scottish Transport Applications and Research (STAR) Conference in May 2015. Previous role involved researching, analysing and influencing local and national government policy; developing public transport solutions; business case preparation and stakeholder engagement. Skills: Analytical, literate and numerate; written and verbal communication; building and maintaining productive working relationships; project management, report writing - Analyses complex policy, strategy and data to provide advice to decision-makers - Managed successful completion of the well-regarded Yorkshire Rail Network Study Phase 1 - Co-ordinated development of a 78m Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project from initial concept to funding approval from Regional Transport Board - Transport planner in public transport environment with keen interest in promoting sustainable travel - Positive, enthusiastic, open and honest character; always has a 'glass half-full' view of life - Strong communication / presentation skills, commercial awareness and customer focus - Acquired transferable skills & 'can-do' attitude from previous career in business-to-business IT sales - Graduated with Merit in MSc Transport Planning from ITS in Leeds; with dissertation on integration of high speed rail and aviation (focusing on the impact of HS2 on mode choice for surface access trips to Birmingham International Airport)
