Chris Ulm’s Expertise A forty-year veteran of both the publishing and video game industries, Chris Ulm is currently Creative Director of Velan Studios, the innovative developers of Mario Kart Live!, Hot Wheels Rift Rally and the PVP based "Dodgebrawl" game, Knock Out City. Prior to Velan Studios, Chris was the Creative Director at Jam City San Diego, the home of Match-3 evergreen franchises, Cookie Jam and Cookie Jam Blast. Before that, Chris co-founded Appy Entertainment, a mobile game developer and publisher whose original mobile games were downloaded over 30 million times. Chris and the Appy team were acquired by Machine Zone in September of 2014. In his previous life as a AAA console developer, Chris was integral to the Oddworld franchise (Abe's Exoddus and Munch's Oddysee) and later co-founded console game developer High Moon Studios, co-creating its original video game property, Darkwatch. As Chief Development Officer, Chris was integral to the acquisition of High Moon by Vivendi Games in 2006 and in its later transition to Activision-Blizzard. Before starting his creative career in game development, Chris was the co-founder and Editor-In-Chief of Malibu Comics Entertainment, the publisher of Men in Black and the Ultraverse line of superhero comics. Chris oversaw the development of both original and licensed properties and was essential to the acquisition of Malibu by Marvel Comics in 1994. Chris has been featured in numerous industry books and publications including Gamers At Work: Stories Behind the Games People Play" (2012)and currently teaches in his spare time at Laguna College Of Art & Design.
