  After my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at Lancaster University, I was given the opportunity to travel and teach English in Finland. I did this for around 6 months, which gave me great experience of living in another country, dealing with a different culture and also gave me some useful 'life experience'. I realised the Finnish life was not for me, so I returned to the UK, and became assistant manager at a local pub (where I had worked for about 10 years during university, school etc). This gave me some great customer facing experience. I then helped out with troubleshooting in the accounts department of a local healthcare business, which gave me good experience on the minutiae of running small businesses. I then went to study a M.Res in Bioinformatics, which was fascinating. This gave me invaluable experience in computer programming (mainly Java / OOP). I wanted to follow through with my interests in programming and looked for work in IT. Therefore, I had around 3 years of working in IT support for IBM and GE. This I found interesting at first, but it soon became tedious and unchallenging. I wanted to do something more 'worthwhile' and jumped at the chance to move into the NHS by studying for and working in Public Health Analysis. I then applied to study Medicine, which had been an interest of mine since I was young. I thus completed an accelerated 4 year degree in Medicine and Surgery. I went on to live in the south west of England and worked as a 'foundation doctor' for two years. I then moved back to the north of England and have recently completed my VTS in General Practice, meaning I am now a fully qualified General Practitioner in the UK. I am currently working as a salaried GP in the Dearne Valley between Doncaster and Barnsley. I am really enjoying my current post, despite the pandemic and the general negativity surrounding GP's from the Government and the press. We have a great and supportive team, and that really helps.
