Christopher White’s Expertise Christopher White was born in the United Kingdom and has lived in New Zealand since 1998. He graduated from the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts in London with a first class honours degree in illustration and graphic design. He worked in London as an illustrator for various magazines including the Sunday Times, Opera Now and Interior Design and publishers Orion Books and Thames and Hudson. In 1986 Christopher was awarded The Most Outstanding Artist Under 35 by The British Royal Society of Watercolourists. In 1997 and 1998 he was Artist in Residence at the Old Royal Observatory at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich. Christopher exhibited extensively in the UK and his work is held in both corporate collections (eg. Abbey National Bank and Gartmore Investments) and private collections (eg. Terence Conran). Since moving to New Zealand he has completed a masters degree in Fine Arts at Elam, Auckland University. Christopher now teaches drawing, printmaking and painting at Whitireia Polytechnic in Wellington. In 2008, his illustrations for the children’s picture-book ‘Dad’s Takeaways’ (written by Melanie Drewery) were short listed for the Russell Clark medal for illustration. In 2012 he was a finalist in the Adams’ National Portrait Award.
