My passion is recruiting and developing engineers, helping them grow into subject matter experts in various areas. I provide technical leadership to Southern Company’s hydro fleet. My personal areas of expertise are in hydro turbines, unit assembly, shaft alignment, and machine vibration. I have updated specifications to include more enforceable language and more detailed quality requirements. I’ve helped justify, conceive, plan, execute, and optimize a large capital improvement program with the goal of modernizing an existing fleet. I have held leadership positions in the hydro industry including Chair of CEATI’s Hydraulic Plant Life Interest Group (now called Hydro Plant Equipment Group). I have also performed benchmarking activities in the areas of cost, performance, staffing, safety, and capital investment; negotiated Master Service Agreements; detailed design of pumps, piping, compressors, heat exchangers, and hydraulic systems; process evaluation and improvement; conducted technical training of operations and maintenance staff, new supervisors, and non-technical personnel; participated in vendor qualification surveys; and traveled the world inspecting hydro turbines and related parts.
