Curtis Riley’s Expertise In my career at Corning, I have gone from working on an assembly line manufacturing fiber optic connectors to designing and constructing automation to build fiber optic connectors. The key for me was taking every chance I could to learn new skills. The major turning point came when I was working in Product Development and figured that we could better test our connectors if we could develop our own applications. This led me to learn LabView and re-discover how much I enjoyed coding. Sometime later I was transferred into the Process Development group and was tasked with becoming their “controls technician”. I ended up learning Omron and Allen Bradley PLC coding and fell in love with it. Since then, I have continued to grow my knowledge of different platforms such as Beckhoff and Fanuc in order to meet the needs of our organization.
