One of the things I enjoy about the business information systems field is being able to help people develop effective and efficient systems to ensure their business runs more successfully. As part of a class project, I worked with my fellow students to create a needs analysis for scheduling service jobs for a small, service-oriented business in the community. I enjoyed working with the business owner to determine solutions that he would find beneficial in running his company. Work History: I have worked full-time for the last eight summers for Etcheson’s Pool and Spa. Through the course of this employment I have advanced from a beginner level employee to a team leader, training other employees to perform a wide variety of skills needed to be successful on the job. Some of these skills include working with concrete, maintaining and servicing pool motors and electrical, installing pool liners and equipment, and managing chemical solutions. I interact with other employees, both supervisors, peers, and those I supervise. I have learned the importance of being polite and respectful with customers, making sure they understand the work I’ve completed or that needs to be completed. It is important for customers to know I am available for problem solving, even after my typical work hours in order to assure greater customer satisfaction. Future: My ideal job after completing my degree would be to work with a variety of small business owners, helping them to determine ways to run their businesses more successfully. I like the variety of interacting with different people and appreciate being able to perform a wide variety of skills throughout my day.
