I focus mainly on the operation of large distributed systems across multi cloud environments, but also get to work on writing code to automate system administration activities. I have nearly 20 years of experience working in cyber security domain building teams and technologies to detect breaches. I specialise in the implementation and automation of large distributed platforms to handle complex workloads across extremely high rate data streams. I have recently been working on deploying and optimising high speed data stream across a "cluster of clusters" (sharded Kafka) to enable ingest of 1 trillion events per day. This also includes enhanced producer and consumer monitoring using extended metric exporters developed in golang and python. It's great to work at Crowdstrike as we get to use the industry leading technologies at a scale rarely seen. We are a distributed team with the right tooling in place to be successful working from home. We strive to automate our operation activities where it makes sense, and work hard to deliver a self service data plane for our product groups. When not at my desk, I'm often out in the bush riding mountain bikes down the steepest hills I can find. I'm a busy father of 3 and love hanging out at the beach and cooking a BBQ.
