Dave Nielsen’s Expertise Over the past 10 years I have worked with over 200 enterprise businesses across multiple verticals including but not limited to, Healthcare, Transportation, and Manufacturing. In all cases I have worked with my customers and partners at every level of the business, CIO to deskside engineer, CFO to off-shore help desk personnel. It is necessary, in order to develop solutions, to understand end to end application flow across all stakeholders in the business. Determine how these users create data, interact with data and how the business monetizes that data. Only then can you design enterprise architectures that make use of Public cloud, Private Cloud, Edge and Hybrid data centers. Dave began his career at IBM in 1995 at the IBM TJ Watson Research Center, the world wide corporate headquarters for one of the most widely respected research organizations in the world. Dave's impact at IBM broadened further in various assignments with other IBM product and services divisions. In his first major project, Dave was the Lead Architect for the IBM enterprise deployment of multi-user Windows (Citrix). Dave's work included international travel to, and deployment coordination with, 8 European IBM locations. His knowledge and expertise in this area was leveraged further as he helped key IBM customers achieve similar deployments. Dave returned to the IBM Research Division in July of 2004. He had been hand picked as the technical lead to build solutions to support a new, key initiative at Research, called the RLSE or Research Lab Systems Engineering. RLSE was conceived to address the unique I/T requirements of the Research Division in a more productive, efficient and cost effective manner. Dave designed or contributed to almost all of the solution areas within the RLSE such as; Data Center control with respect to Power Consumption vs. Heat Extraction, Virtualization including VMWare, VIO, Xen and KVM. Datacenter design, DMZ Services, Automated Provisioning and many more. As the industry progressed RLSE turned out to be a perfect predecessor for cloud and virtualization solutions. As such, Dave was naturally moved into the role as Lead Architect for the Research Compute Cloud environment. Dave has since taken on additional related responsibilities such as Green DataCenter, NY State University partnership and Data Center Migration (Cloud and traditional). Specialties: • Cloud Infrastructure & Design • End to End Architecture Solutions • Extensive External Customer Contact • Business Case Proposal Development • Storage Design • Mentoring Program • Network design
