David Morris’s Expertise David is President of the Royal Society of Tasmania's Northern Branch (President 2017-2018, Acting President 2019, President 2023-2024), and was a member (2017-2024) of the Board of Jane Franklin Hall, a residential college at the University of Tasmania at Hobart. He is a Trustee on the William Stepney Trust, a charitable trust supporting church ministry. He is Vice-President of the Tasmanian Council of Churches (TCC) (President, June 2013 to July 2015). From 2012 to 2013, and from 2015 to 2016 he was Convener of the TCC's Commission for Christian Ministry in State Schools, which was co-responsible for the development and monitoring of Tasmanian Education Department guidelines for the conduct of chaplaincy in State schools, and a major stake-holder in the development of Tasmanian Education Department guidelines for the conduct of Christian religious education in State Schools. David Morris is an educator with wide experience in Tasmania in State schools, independent schools, at TasTAFE and as a reference librarian in the State Library of Tasmania and the University of Tasmania. He is currently College Librarian and Head of Library & Information Services at Scotch Oakburn College in Launceston, Australia and moderator in northern Tasmania of senior secondary school and college librarianship for the State Government's Office of Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification. David has a history of active professional engagement at both national and State levels. At national level, he currently sits on the national committee of ALIA Schools, formerly the School Library Advisory Committee for the Australian Library & Information Association (ALIA), and he has chaired the Joint Policy Advisory Group of the ALIA and Australian School Library Association (ASLA), having been national secretary of ASLA. His distinguished contribution and expertise to teacher librarianship and library services in Tasmania and at the national level was recognized in 2013 when he was awarded the esteemed Doreen Hopkins Medal by the Australian School Library Association and the Silver Pin recognition for extensive service nationally by the Australian Library and Information Association in 2023.
