David Rodriguez’s Expertise I grew up with a passion for engineering and design in the Themed Entertainment industry, and went to school for that main reason. However, those 4 years in the Mechanical Engineering program at LMU exposed me to all kinds of engineering industries. There I learned to appreciate the aerospace and product design industries through electives like Propulsion and Product Design. At LMU, I gained a large amount of technical knowledge aimed around machine design and manufacturing mechanical systems, with the proper foundation studies in material science, dynamics, vibration studies, and thermodynamics. Through lab classes and group projects, I gained experience in testing and analyzing mechanical systems using FEA and calculation analysis, as well as technical report writing. The various skills I gained there include SolidWorks, GD&T, AutoCAD, Matlab, critical stress analysis, risk mitigation, technical report writing, teamwork, and multiple project management. Both during and after my education, I obtained experience both in the engineering field as well as alongside it as a project management intern at Otis Elevators, working on the newly opened Wilshire Grand building in downtown Los Angeles. At AES, I delved headfirst into mechanical and structural design, utilizing SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SketchUp, and Rhinoceros software to create 3D models and 2D drawings with GD&T symbols. It was here that I also learned fast-paced full-service job shop experience, taking projects from conception through approval, fabrication, testing, and installation. I worked with shop workers, project management, engineers, and external vendors to create these complex pieces. I am always looking for ways to expand my mechanical engineering experience (which is one of the broadest disciplines with applications in everything) while continuing to develop my design and PM skills.
