David Shamma’s Expertise Dr. David Ayman Shamma has over 20 years of experience in Human-Computer Interaction and AI research and connecting research to real-world business and products. Currently at TRI he researches Human-Centric AI systems for Carbon Neutrality. At FXPAL, he designed, researched, developed, prototyped, and patented future-of-work systems enabling VR environments for remote meetings, gaze and presence in 360° video conferencing, and AI for Internet of Things (IoT) smart consumer cameras and enterprise devices. Previously as a visiting scientist at Centrum Wiskunde and Informatica, he led research on wearable sensors for smart night clubs in a collaboration with a Byborre fashion, CleverFrank design, and Redbull. At Yahoo! Labs, he was the Director of Research where he built and managed a team that led research and data science at Flickr that combined social computing with machine learning to advance business metrics and gain user-centered product insights. Ayman’s research has obtained international attention by Wired Magazine, CNN, and New York Magazine, Engadget, and Petapixel. His media installations exhibited, including Second City Chicago, the Berkeley Art Museum, SIGGRAPH, Chicago Improv Festival, Wired NextFest/NextMusic, and have been reviewed by The New York Times and Chicago Magazine. Ayman holds a B.S./M.S. from the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition at The University of West Florida and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Intelligent Information Laboratory at Northwestern University. Before Yahoo!, he was an instructor at the Medill School of Journalism; he has also taught courses in Computer Science and Studio Art departments. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., he was a visiting research scientist for the Center for Mars Exploration at NASA Ames Research Center.
