Recently, I received a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching which allowed me to pursue an educational project in the Netherlands. I have been awarded the Michigan Council for Teachers of English Teacher of the Year for 2016 and have been recognized by the National Council of Teachers of English as a 2016 Teacher of Excellence. I also recently won the 2016 Dr. Elizabeth Curtis Award which honors young professionals in my home region. I have a wide variety of interests as he has held many positions with students outside of the classroom including a decade of theatre direction, four years as INTERACT supervisor, three years leading the ski club, and more. I love sharing my educational journey from teacher-centered to student-centered through speaking at conferences around Michigan. I have given two memorable MACUL Lightning Talks and am slated to speak more around Michigan throughout the year. I hold a Master's in Education from Grand Valley State University as well as Bachelor Degrees in English (GVSU) and Theatre (Hope College). I am also an accredited Teaching Consultant through the Lake Michigan Writing Project, a branch of the National Writing Project.
