David Ting’s Expertise I am currently the Clinical Director of Clinician Experience for Mass General Brigham (MGB). I was formerly Chief Digital Health Officer of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Chief Medical Information Officer of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization (MGPO) and Co-Director of the MGH Center for Innovation in Digital HealthCare (CIDH). My involvement in Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) and digital healthcare began in 1997, when I implemented one of the first practice-wide electronic health records (EHRs) in an MGH health center, pioneering the emerging technologies of the time, including handwriting-enabled wireless handheld devices, touch-screen laptops, automated charge coding software, and electronic office scheduling. I've since turned my focus to leverage technology and workflow engineering to reduce administrative burden on physicians and their practices and improve provider and patient experiences of healthcare. Now in the Office of the CMIO at MGB, I liaise among over 6000 faculty physicians, 900 ambulatory practices, hospital and HIT leadership, and enterprise leaders and teams at Mass General Brigham (formerly Partners HealthCare). My body of work includes implementing scribes, virtual scribes, developing a centralized medication renewal process, scaling adoption of computerized voice recognition, delegating clinical data abstraction and transfer, and applying artificial intelligence in clinical care. Most recently, I am applying generative AI toward mitigating the burden of In Basket messages in the EHR and automating the synthesis of clinical documentation. In advocating for clinician experience at MGB, I bring MGB innovators and researchers together with internal and industry partners to coordinate, guide and promote ideation, development, implementation and scaling of next-generation digital healthcare solutions.
