My aviation career began in 1971 with Rocky Mountain Airways, a Colorado airline that created market dominance by using leading-edge technology. I was the only officer that stayed with the company when it was sold to Texas Air and become the Western Region of Continental Express in 1990. January 1994 I joined the Front Range Airport (FTG), the last general aviation (GA) airport to be constructed in Colorado and by land mass one of the largest GA airports in the U.S. For the first 18-years I directed efforts towards the development of infrastructure, necessary to accommodate large aircraft. August 2011, I was introduced to the concept of FTG becoming a spaceport. Initially I thought it sounded like Buck Rogers, but after careful consideration I saw the tremendous opportunity for FTG and Colorado, if DIA was in favor. Kim Day, DIA’s Manager of Aviation was not only open to the idea, but she embraced it wholeheartedly. I have never experienced anything as uniting and energizing as Spaceport Colorado. I don’t know if Spaceport Colorado will become a reality, but it’s not the destination, but the journey that is important and the people and personal relationships that are developed along the way. Those last two years were a very rewarding ride, like drinking from a fire hose!
