Derek Carpenter’s Expertise Development Manager In the 80s and early 90s I was a development manager for ICL's terminal systems product range and Retail Systems supermarket offerings. In the mid 80s I oversaw the design and managed the implementation and delivery of a terminal system that became the fastest product in ICL to reach 100m of revenue. Considering that price of a terminal system was in the range 10k to 20k (depending on configuration and options) the volumes shipped had to be very high to out perform mainframe sales. Design Authority In the mid 90s to 2002 I became Fujitsu Serevices internal IT design authority. During that time Exchange 5.5 was rolled out across Fujitsu Services international territories. I design the overall architecture of this and installed a number of the international Exchange sites. Not a glamarous role as I generally only saw the office and if I was very lucky a hotel. Customer Solution Architect In 2002/2003 Fujitsu Services was desparate to increase the number of its Microsoft customer facing consultants. To that end I switched from an internal customer facing role to an external customer facing role. Due to my background I worked with customers from the CIO downwards. I was never afraid to get my hands 'dirty' as I regularly not only designed the solution I implemented and tested it as well. Specialties: I have a very broad range of knowledge which varies from very deep to just amout of knowledge to understand how it can fit into a design. My main expertise is Microsoft Exchange 5.5 to 2007.
