Devanshi Bhardwaj’s Expertise I am currently a Postdoctoral Associate at Stony Brook University. My research focuses on synthesizing and characterizing fusion beryllides, ceramics, and functional metal oxides (both in powder and thin-film form). My work aims to advance applications in energy systems, metamaterials, smart windows, and infrared sensing technologies. Under the supervision of Prof. Arun M. Umarji and Prof. Karuna Kar Nanda at the Materials Research Centre, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India, I conducted my doctoral research titled "Vanadium Dioxide: bulk and thin films for device applications." The objectives of my research were twofold: -To lower the phase transition temperature and control the optical properties of VO2 for smart window applications by doping with W, Mo, and Sc. -To reduce the surface roughness of VO2 thin films using various processing techniques such as DC Reactive Sputtering and PLD, thereby enhancing their efficiency for optical applications mentioned above. Key findings from my research include: -W and Mo dopants effectively lowered the transition temperature of VO2 near room temperature. Contrarily, Sc primarily influenced the optical properties of VO2, diverging from theoretical predictions. -Successfully achieved a significant reduction in roughness (3.78 nm) of VO2 thin films using PLD. Additionally, I investigated the photoresponse of these films in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. -The outcomes of my research have been published in international peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous international and national conferences, including IUMRS-2019 in Singapore, through both poster and oral presentations. In my postdoctoral research, I am primarily focused on two key areas: -Investigating the stabilization of ceramic matrix sintered structures that contain entrained hydride second phases. This research aims to comprehensively understand the materialistic aspects of the system, including its stability, mechanical behavior, and microstructure evolution. -Exploring the structural properties of fusion beryllide systems, with the objective of assessing their suitability as moderators in future fusion reactors. My findings have been published in reputable journals such as the Journal of Nuclear Materials and Frontiers in Nuclear Engineering. Moreover, I have presented this work orally at ICACC-2023 and both orally and as a poster at ICFRM-24. I always look forward to working on a challenging problem wherein I can contribute and further learn and develop my research skills and understanding.
