Dieter D'hoedt’s Expertise Scientific researcher with strong background in electrophysiology (heterologous expression systems) and molecular biology. My preliminary research is working on ion channels. Over the past 5-6 years, I have worked on Small conductance calcium-activated potassium channels at the Max-Planck institute of Goettingen and continued this work at the University college London (PhD work). Thereafter, I did my first post-doc at the University of Leuven, where I worked on TRP channels in the group of Prof. Bernd Nilius and Prof. Thomas Voets. Recently, I started my second post-doc at the University of Genève, where I'm currently working on nAChRs in the group of Prof. Daniel Bertrand. My aim is to understand the working of different ion channels and correlate them with their physiological importance. in addition, this allows me to search and identify new drugs which can help in the treatment of several of the ion channel related diseases. Specialties: Electrophysiology: heterologous expression systems (HEK, CHO cells). Automated patch clamp on Oocytes. Molecular biology: DNA preparation, cloning,... Immunofluorescence Computer skills: word, excell, mathlab, Igor,... Languages: Flemish (mother tongue), English (good knowledge, speaking and writing), French (good knowledge), German (good knowledge)
