  Originally a linguist - still passionate about languages, cultures and literature- I moved into HR whilst working for the British Council. My best ever role was Business Partner in the fast developing English teaching business - lots of great colleagues, exciting trips to far flung places and opportunities to get involved with growing the business.. I qualified in HR in 1989. Gained Chartered Fellowship in 2009. Early 90s,did some interesting work with Dutch funded Oil exploration team in Yemen, then back to the UK and up to Manchester. Developed expertise with a wide range of managers and played a key role in modernising HR in the British Council before moving into Local Government in 2004 to see the world through different eyes and work with different client groups. Fascinating - but tough during the period of austerity and cuts. Retired in December 2015. Enjoying travel, and spend time with friends and family. Leading a lively U3A French group proving to be fun. Other voluntary work such as reviewing cancer care literature and occasional talks in schools. Recently retired and exploring new options in life.
