Dongping Zheng’s Expertise As a person, I seek to become more understanding of different culture groups, cultivate myself to be more aware of my existence in relation to the others and the world, and contribute to the communities that I belong, virtual or local communities. As an educator, I would feel I've done my job if my students can develop new habits of thinking and doing through which all areas of the learner ecology is considered. As a language researcher, my current goal is to integrate learners' cultural practices into the understanding of population that we study. The investigation needs to be done by bilinguals, or co-conducted by researchers of the target culture and the "outsider" researcher. As a learning scientist, I strive to introduce Eastern Philosophies from my first person experiences as a bilingual and bicultural academic and from classical texts to enrich, extend learning theories dominated in the Western thoughts.
