Prior to my election to Council, I was involved in the community campaign to Save Willow Grove, Save Parramatta Pool and advocacy for the Female Factory. Since my election to Council I've continued to provide strong support for community lead issues across the city such as the inclusion of Wistaria Gardens in Parramatta Park, a 10 yr lease of Carlingford High School sports fields, funding for an off-leash dog park at West Epping Park, the construction of the Peninsula Park at Wentworth Point and sports field at Newington Reserve. As Lord Mayor I focussed on promoting Parramatta as a destination to live, work, study and visit. I have championed the maintenance of employment zones and a close relationship with the business chambers as critical to Parramatta's success. Parramatta, from Olympic Park to Westmead, is well-positioned to become the preeminent arts and cultural destination of Greater Sydney. I'm committed to the arts and the redevelopment of the Riverside Theatres. Alongside the community, I've lead the campaign to Save Willow Grove & St George's Terrace from destruction by the former State Government to make way for the Parramatta Powerhouse. I've always maintained my support for state government investment in arts and culture in Western Sydney, but not at the expense of our heritage. Parramatta LGA is undergoing major growth with the population set to increase to 450,000 in the next 15 years. I've worked hard as a Councillor to ensure there is a balance between development and liveability - appropriate development that compliments and respects our built and environmental heritage. I'm passionate about ensuring everyone have access to what they need for a healthy and happy lifestyle including access to affordable housing, increased open space, infrastructure and essential services. I understand the issues impacting residents and businesses across the electorate. I believe that Parramatta's success lies in harnessing its strongest assets - its people, location and rich history.
