  After my honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, I began my career with PGandE, I started in gas transmission. I was responsible for the Los Medanos compressor station. We worked 12 hour shifts to make sure the compressor was always running to support the local gas system. I was lead safety chair and helped produce observation safety. I went to Oakland gas service to be a GSR, the hours where better for my young family. I responded to customer emergency calls and customer safety checks on their gas appliances. After 7 years in gas service I had to have shoulder surgery for a torn rotator cuff. (Not company related) after 3 surgeries i went in to dispatch to get away from wrenching. In dispatch I was asked to upgrade as a Communications Specialist where we handled all the communications for gas dig in and CPUC reportable incidents. After that I did a 6 month supervisor rotation in gas dispatch. In dispatch we had up to 80 employees with as many as 30 working at a time. I had to learn the union contract because it was very strong in dispatch, I worked multiple shifts and long hours as it’s a 24 hour operation. After my upgrade I became a shop steward to better understand the contract as to broaden my own knowledge. Most recently I was as to upgrade for 6 months in Oakland gas service. The McKenzie ‘lean team’ was in Oakland where I worked side by side to learn the sigma six business practices, I eventually was offered the job full time which i happily accepted and to this day we live by the lean process. We have been very successful and have had many companies from outside the state do ‘come and sees’ to watch our processes and do Q and A panels for the visitors. Pacific Gas And Electric
