Performed engineering for construction of solution polymer plant in Salisbury, NC, various environmental projects related to MON compliance plan for the Vinamul Business in Meredosia, IL and Woodruff, SC , supported the sale of the Vinamul SBU to Celanese Corporation, and supporting the transfer of emulsion technology to Celanese Corp. project manger for construction of $10 million dollar hotmelt facility in Woodruff, SC.Responsible for the startup and management of Wilson Engineering’s Indianapolis office. Duties include recruiting engineering staff, establishing customer needs, setting and communicating group goals, and P&L responsibility for Indianapolis operations. The Indianapolis office provided engineering and training services to Eli Lilly in support of construction and development of a biochemical manufacturing process.Job responsibilities included all phases of production for six reactor systems producing sixty different emulsion polymers. Duties included employee management, production planning, inventory management, process troubleshooting, streamlining processing systems, providing technical resource for nonconforming product problems, and small-scale project work. Under my supervision, the Polymer department achieved ISO 9002 certification, multiport monomer injection systems were installed on Reactor 12, the condenser on Reactor 7 was reconfigured to run 25-2805, batch cycle times on Reactor 10 were reduced by over 20%, and the continuous homopolymer reactor rates were increased by 2500 lbs per hour. Directed work of one engineer, four shift supervisors, one production coordinator, and thirty-four hourly chemical operators.Responsible for polymerization processes in six atmospheric reactor systems. Duties included employee management in a union environment, direct coordination of departmental projects, integration of computerized control onto aging reactor systems, troubleshooting problems in the polymerization process, and overseeing the work of one salaried supervisor and twenty-five hourly employees.Responsible for capital project design and installation. Duties included design and installation of bulk handling system for n-methylol acrylamide, installation of several process charging vessels to debottleneck two reactor systems, and primary responsibility for installation, programming, and troubleshooting of SIEMATIC 565 PLC/Intellution computerized control system on three polymerization reactors.Engineering Intern responsible for setting up maintenance spares for new powdered detergent plant in Cartersville, GA. Duties included identifying and ordering $680,000 of necessary parts, renting warehouse space for the parts while the plant was under construction, and setting up a system so that the parts could be easily identified and located when required.Responsible for plant engineering and maintenance groups at the Woodruff, SC plant. Duties include responsibility for site capital budget, process engineering, project engineering, and plant maintenance departments. Established and/or maintained systems for PSM and environmental compliance including plant preventive maintenance systems, mechanical integrity program, process safety information, management of change program, plant HAZOPs, and OSHA RMP. Maintained monthly tracking of equipment utilization and production yields and defined and executed projects to improve both. Project responsibilities included re-automation of polymerization reactors utilizing the Foxboro I/A DCS system, installation of new high-pressure ethylene gas handling systems, design and installation of equipment to cut waste during production changeovers, and redesign and upgrade of the existing continuous polymerization reactor to yield 80% more throughput. Direct reports included two project engineers, three process engineers, two maintenance supervisors, and one draftsperson.
