I have Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Health Promotion/Education and Sociology from Flinders University, and a Master of Human Nutrition Science from Deakin University. My previous role was part of the ARC’s Food Waste Linkage Project’s research team, where my research focused on food rescue operations and food insecurity. My research on food rescue operations lead me to OzHarvest, and after researching and volunteering with the team I was offered an exciting job opportunity. I have worked as OzHarvest Melbourne's NEST Program Coordinator since mid-2016 and in mid-2019 I was promoted to OzHarvest's National NEST Program Manager. In this role, I manage the national NEST (Nutrition Education and Skills Training) program. Key parts of my role include researching, developing, implementing, and evaluating the nutrition program, and supervising my wonderful team of Nutritionists and Dietitians to successfully deliver the NEST program across the country. The NEST program is an evidenced-based public health nutrition intervention that educates and encourages people living in low socioeconomic areas (many that are experiencing food insecurity) about nutrition and cooking. It provides basic nutrition theory and cooking and food literacy skills that support healthy eating choices. By changing perceptions, attitudes, and behaviours, participants are able to lead healthier lives, live more independently, and enjoy improved general and mental health. I love seeing people make measurable changes throughout the program, and it is wonderful to know that in some small way our NEST team and I can support, motivate, and empower people to take steps to improve their overall health.
