  Hey. I'm Gavin. I'm an educator, activist, instigator, dreamer, photographer, designer, and advocate. I love teaching, designing, learning, and hearing people's stories. I care a lot about making sure cities are equitable healthy places to live. I've been designing, teaching, and organizing around affordable housing, the civic commons, and community power in Somerville MA, which is fulfilling and frustrating in equal measure. I make spaces and things. I think that cities should belong to people. I'm studio lead at Kin Design Studio, a radical design practice that focuses on transformational social justice through community-building, place-making, and the design and fabrication of civic infrastructure. We work across all sectors of design -- from research to policy to strategic planning to the design and fabrication of things out in the world. Academically, I'm at RISD and Northeastern these days, where I've had the opportunity to work with incredible students and amazing faculty colleagues working towards a more just world. Proud member of The Architecture Lobby, where I fight for a more just and equitable future for us all. At the root of it, we all understand architecture. It's just places — and I think that making a place starts from stories. Stories about family, about neighbors. Stories about how a city came to be, stories about how the rain hangs in the sky.
