Glenn Randall’s Expertise I am a postdoctoral associate with the Boston University Physics Department. I work in the CASPEr and SHAFT experiments, looking for axion-like dark matter using NMR and other magnetic techniques. My current focus is on designing and building the next generation of both experiments, although I am very much involved with current generation work also. Much of this work is to convert experiments from a wet, He bath to a dry dilution refrigerator. My PhD work in nuclear physics was mainly focused on my work at the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory working on the Nab experiment. My dissertation, Si Detector Timing Studies for the Nab Experiment, describes solid state radiation detector modelling in Python and various radiation detector characterizations, mostly of Si. Also included are works with scintillation detectors and work on the ultra-high vacuum system for the Nab experiment, which exists in the largest cryogen-free superconducting magnet ever built. I have also worked on the DarkLight collaboration, where I build the slow controls system for the experiment, controlling the vacuum, magnet, and detector hardware. I also helped install the ultra-high and roughing vacuum for this experiment. While with this collaboration, I also worked on Gas Electron Multiplication (GEM) radiation detector triggering, both in C++ (GEANT4 and ROOT) simulation and in the lab. I have also worked on GEANT4 simulation for a medical imaging project while at ASU. At ASU, I have extensive experience as a physics teaching assistant, where I averaged a 4.4 on post-term TA surveys done by the university (maximum score of 5, total of 249 student responses). Previous to starting graduate school I spent time as a professional runner and Nordic skier. While at Dartmouth College I won the 2008 NCAA 10 km Nordic Skiing Championship and was a member of the 2007 NCAA Skiing Team Championship. I was 9th at the 2012 World Mountain Running Championships. I won the 2010 Pikes Peak Ascent, which also functioned as the World Mountain Running Association Long Distance Challenge. I also led the first 5 miles of the 2012 Boston Marathon. I was 2nd at the 2011 50 km Classical Technique National Championship in Nordic skiing.
