  I have had a wide experience of working life including time as a funeral director and a test driver for BP (though not both at the same time!) When I first joined the ATC at 2121 (Abingdon) Sqn, my CO asked me what I hoped to get out of the organisation. I replied, to fly in as many different aircraft as possible and to shoot as many different weapons as I could. By the end of my cadet career, I had 147 flying hours in powered aircraft, as well as having passed my gliding scholarship. Types flown included all transport types of the RAF, including Tristar (first air cadet to do that), BAe 146 (first cadet to do that), all types of helicopters, including Army Air Corps types, the Canberra and the Victor. As far as the shooting went, I fired most of the weapons used by the British Armed forces between 1979 and 1985, including the 0.303 Lee Enfield, the SLR, the Stirling sub-machine gun, the Browning pistol and the GPMG.
