Guang Ruey Tan’s Expertise Guang Ruey Tan is a versatile architect with a strong skillset in conceptual design. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Beijing Tsinghua University and a Master of Science in Architecture from Delft University of Technology. Based in Rotterdam, he is a registered architect in the Netherlands. Tan began his career working in prominent architectural firms, including OMA and MVRDV, in 2014, specializing in large-scale projects across Europe and Asia. His experience spans convention centres, masterplan designs, public libraries, residential buildings, façade design, and exhibition design. In 2017, he joined the founding team of CLFX-FIX Rotterdam, a Sino-Dutch startup pioneering smart and sustainable architectural solutions with tech integration. He played a pivotal role in establishing the Beijing branch and led the Design & Engineering team, focusing on hi-tech architectural research, upcycling building materials, and innovative design and engineering solutions. In 2020, he returned to MVRDV as a project leader, achieving success in projects like the Shenzhen factory renovation and securing victories in two consecutive major international competitions: TC dormitory towers in Shenzhen (2021) and JZ office towers in Chengdu (2021), both currently under construction. In 2022, Tan joined ARUP Amsterdam, where his main work involves multi-disciplinary design development. He collaborated with the ARUP Amsterdam team on developing digital test-fit tools for modular housing systems (2022) and the Hi-Tech Campus masterplan design for Thermo Fisher Scientific in Eindhoven (2023). He also supported the ARUP Milan team in the detailed design development of the Milan MSG Olympic Arena (2022) and Florence Stadium (2023). Tan enjoys working on complex and challenging projects, believing that the beauty of the profession lies in the process of translating a strong concept into a feasible and efficient architectural solution with refined detailing, ultimately resulting in a high-quality built environment that stimulates the senses and contributes to a sustainable future.
