This is his 3rd decade of managing Community Development, Corporate Social Responsibility, Fundraising and Advocacy programs. Gurtej is known for his person-centered, client-focused, CSR friendly and proactive management skills. His colleagues term him as an innovative professional , persuasive communicator and experienced organizer. Gurtej has strong verbal and written proficiency in English, Punjabi and Hindi languages with verbal understanding of Urdu language. After completing his Masters in Economics, Gurtej worked as an Inspector in the Department of Cooperation. He got another Masters in Sociology, worked as Senior Research Fellow and taught Community Development and CSR at his University for 3 years. Gurtej worked with Prof.J R Hicks (Nobel Laureate, Economics), Ursula Hicks (London School of Economics), Dr. Manmohan Singh, present Prime Minister of India and Dr.H K Manmohan Singh, former Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala. Gurtej organized fund-raising initiatives for HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Red-Cross, Children's Hospital and Heart and Stroke Foundation. Gurtej joined the Ministry of Social Security, Women and Children Development as Assistant Director in 1989 and got subsequent promotions as Dy. Director and then Joint Director (1999). In Canada, Gurtej has been assisting individuals with Developmental Disabilities, managing programs for New Immigrants and creating awareness about emerging issues of the community via Radio, TV and seminars. He worked as Team Leader with posAbilities, CSR and Community Developer at PICS Society (BC). Presently, he is Advocate and Consultant for CSR and ABCD in BC. Gurtej launched ASHA for “knowledge generation and awareness creation” to make Canadians aware of their rich heritage and the importance of multiculturalism.
